President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has urged Malawian youth to adopt a strong work ethic, emphasizing that hard work is key to the nation’s socio-economic growth.
Speaking at the 2025 National Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Conference at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Chakwera highlighted the importance of employment and entrepreneurship in reducing crime and fostering self-reliance.
“Working is a blessing that combats theft and promotes sustainability among the youth. Those who don’t work often resort to stealing,” he said.
He then commended TEVET programs, describing them as essential to achieving Malawi 2063, the country’s long-term development blueprint.
Chakwera also reaffirmed his administration’s confidence ahead of the September 16 general elections, stating that his government is committed to staying in power.
Minister of Labour Peter Dimba praised President Chakwera’s efforts to improve vocational education, citing the construction of new technical colleges across the country. He noted that student enrollment in technical institutions has surged from 2,500 to 7,000 due to these initiatives.
The conference brought together policymakers, educators, and industry players to explore ways of strengthening vocational education and expanding job opportunities for Malawian youth.
