Deputy Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social welfare Halima Daud, has called on political parties, civil society organizations, and communities to adopt and promote the Children’s Manifesto, describing it as a critical tool in addressing the needs and rights of children across the country.
Speaking on Wednesday in Lilongwe during the official launch of the Children’s Manifesto, Daud who is also the Member of Parliament for Dowa South East said the document provides a roadmap for child-centered development and policy making.
“This manifesto should remind us of our responsibility to put children first in our development plans. It is a powerful voice for the voiceless and highlights areas where leaders must act,” said Daud.
She emphasized that the Children’s Manifesto raises key issues including child protection, quality education, healthcare and nutrition, child participation, and climate change, all of which require urgent attention from policymakers and stakeholders.
Daud also took the opportunity to commend President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for his consistent leadership in championing children’s rights and promoting their welfare across Malawi.
Speaking at the same event, Shekinah Galuwakananji, a child representative from Mwanza, expressed hope that stakeholders would seriously consider the issues raised in the manifesto and incorporate the children’s recommendations ahead of the September 16, 2025, general elections.
“We expect that our voices will not only be heard but acted upon. This manifesto is our plea to be included in the decisions that shape our future,” said Shekinah.
