No Rival for Chaziya: Kabwila Sees Victory Ahead for MCP

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila says the unopposed election of Lawrence Chaziya as Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Chilobwe Constituency reflects the trust Malawians have in the party and its leader, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Her remarks follow the Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC) declaration of Chaziya as duly elected after no other candidate filed nominations.

Kabwila told Yetu FM that she is confident that Dr. Chakwera will win the upcoming polls, along with the majority of MCP parliamentary and council candidates, describing the development as a sign of an impending landslide victory.

“If DPP and UTM chose not to contest against Chaziya in Lilongwe Chilobwe Constituency, just imagine what will happen when his political father Dr Lazarus Chakwera comes on the ground on 16 September,” She said.

Yetu FM understands that Section 45 of the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Elections Act says, if only one candidate is duly nominated in a constituency or ward, the returning officer shall publicly declare that candidate elected.
