The graft busting body Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Commissioner of Police for the Northern Region, Richard Luhanga, on allegations of abuse of office.

In a statement, ACB Principal Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala stated that Luhanga’s arrest follows investigations into reports that, while serving as Commissioner of Police in Mzuzu between 2022 and 2023, he misused a donation from Press Trust Limited for personal benefit.

“He abused his office by using the paint donated by Press Trust Limited, meant for Mzuzu Police Hospital at the region’s headquarters, to paint his private property at Nkhozo Estate in Bolero,” Ndala said in the statement.

She further said that Luhanga would appear in court soon to answer charges of abuse of office, which contravenes Section 25B (1), read with Section 25B (4) and 34, of the Corrupt Practices Act (CPA).
