Government reaffirms its commitment in supporting refugees and asylum seekers living in the country.

Commissioner for refugees in the Department for Refugees under the Ministry of Homeland security General Ignacio Maulana, has reaffirmed government’s commitment in supporting refugees and asylum seekers living in the country despite financial challenges the Department for Refugees, UNHCR, WFP and other stakeholders are facing.  

Maulana made the sentiments today at Dzaleka during a townhall with the refugee community that tacked some areas of importance raging from security issues, funding cuts, food pipeline break and encouragement on voluntary return.

Speaking to Yetu FM, Maulana urged Dzaleka residents to refrain fro engaging themselves in illegal activities pertaining to security laps in the camp and emphasized the need for unity among Congolese saying tribe differences that exist among Congo community causes unnecessary conflicts in Dzaleka.

Maulana therefore reassured Dzaleka residents that the Government together with other duty bearers are still advocating for more resources in order to address the existing challenges faced by refugees and asylums seekers.

Reacting to the development, Burundi community leader, Nihibigira Goreth, emphasized the need for security interventions in the camp.
