The Deputy Minister of Gender who is also aspiring candidate of Dowa South East Constituency MP under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Halima Daud, has today officially opened Jumpha Health Centre, a multimillion-kwacha facility built with support from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
For years, local communities had to travel long distances to Mtengowanthenga Health Centre, Dowa District Hospital, or Dzaleka Health Centre to access medical care. Mothers, children, and other vulnerable residents faced major challenges getting timely healthcare. With Jumpha Health Centre now operational, over 13,000 households in the area will have access to essential health services, including clean water, improved hygiene, and better maternal and child care.
Speaking at the ceremony, Daud thanked the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the generous support. She also reminded communities that improving health services in the area was one of her key campaign promises — a promise she has now delivered. She encouraged residents to continue trusting her leadership as the country heads towards the forthcoming elections.
Tikhale Kuonga, a Health Surveillance Assistant (HSA), expressed her gratitude, saying that in the past they often had to provide health services under a tree, and that this new facility is truly a dream come true for the community.
Leonard Amos, First Counselor of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, revealed that the project cost over K350 million and urged residents to take care of the infrastructure to ensure the community continues benefiting from it.
In addition to Jumpha, a similar health facility is being developed in Chunzu, further strengthening healthcare delivery across Dowa South East.
