Kawale Charts Industrial Future for Malawi’s Agriculture

Minister of Agriculture Sam Dalitso Kawale has unveiled a bold vision aimed at turning Malawi from a raw crop exporter into an agro-industrial powerhouse.

Speaking during the inauguration of the new ADMARC Board in Kawale says the country is losing millions of dollars every year by importing products it could produce locally such as cooking oil, dairy items, wheat flour, and processed fruits.

He described this trend as economic self-sabotage, and challenged the newly appointed ADMARC Board to lead the transformation.

Kawale further says within three years, ADMARC is expected to operate factories across Malawi, turning raw crops into high-value goods.

As a way of achieving this, the minister revealed plans to build at least five agro-processing plants within the next 24 months in partnership with the private sector.

He said the initiative will create jobs, empower farmers, and boost Malawi’s economy through value addition and export growth.
