We Effect’s Nutrition Project Officer Olivia Mpulula has expressed optimism that the newly introduced nutrition project, Nourishing Future will significantly improve the health and well-being of local communities in Dowa District.
Speaking at Dowa District Council Chamber on Thursday during the project presentation, Mpulula says the initiative aims to boost nutrition levels, especially among children and women.
She further called for joint efforts from Civil Society Organizations, saying the collaboration with CSOs within the district will ensure the project reaches its full potential.
“We believe this initiative will make a meaningful difference. However, we need collaborative efforts from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to achieve its full impact,” she said.
Dowa continues to grapple with high levels of malnutrition, with a stunting rate currently at 44%.
However, District Principal Nutrition and HIV/AIDS Officer, Noel Chikumbu, welcomed the project, saying it brings renewed hope in addressing micronutrient deficiencies.
Funded by the European Union with a budget of approximately 1.5 million Euros, Nourishing Future is being rolled out across all 28 districts in Malawi, aiming for long-term, sustainable improvement in nutrition.
