MRA Urges Journalist to Champion Msonkho Online Awareness

The Malawi revenue authority has urged journalists to promote awareness and usage of the Msonkho online system within MRA.

The plea was made during a one-day media training organized by the agency with support from the GIZ PFEM, financed by the German cooperation and European Union.

Speaking in an interview with Yetu radio, MRA communications manager Henry Mchazime emphasized that it is the role of journalists in the country to encourage taxpayers to register on the Msonkho online platform as it is convenient, secure and accessible at any time.

Mchazime says through the media more people in Malawi will understand the processes of registering and filling taxes through msonkho online.

However, MRA, has through the media called on all tax payers to continue contributing their fair share of taxes voluntarily citing that it remains committed to optimizing revenue collection.

Yetu community radio was established in 2018 by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) with the mission of serving as a model of peaceful co-existence between the Malawian and refugee communities in addressing issues of child protection, GBV, and human rights by providing a platform for all people to access information and speak on issues that affect them through media programming. Yetu community radio boasts of being a unique radio as it is based in a refugee camp setup and is the only radio in Malawi that broadcasts in five languages, namely; English, Chichewa, Kiswahili, French, and Kinyarwanda. The station broadcasts on 107.6 MHZ across the central region of Malawi.
