Executive Director of Partners in Child, Youth and Women Development, Phelire Malongo, has urged caregivers to take a leading role in ensuring that every child acquires the skills necessary for holistic development.
Malongo made the remarks on Friday at Dzaleka Refugee Camp during the graduation ceremony of caregivers who completed a child development training programme organized in collaboration with Jericho Relief and Development.
Speaking to journalists, she stressed the importance of equipping caregivers from Dzaleka and surrounding communities with knowledge and practical skills in child development to improve the quality of care and learning provided to children.
The training covered key areas including morning ring, art, story time, secondary ring, outdoor activities, child safeguarding, and baby stimulation. The programme is expected to enhance caregivers’ teaching techniques and strengthen early childhood development services.
Dowa District Social Welfare Officer, Jonathan Bonongwe, commended Partners in Child, Youth and Women Development and Jericho Relief and Development for organizing the training. He noted that Dowa District faces a shortage of qualified caregivers, adding that the initiative will not only improve the capacity of individual caregivers but also benefit the district’s early childhood development sector.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Alliance Ombeni called on his fellow trainees to uphold professionalism and integrity in their respective schools to ensure the well-being and proper development of the children under their care.
