Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Quality and Assurance Manager, Kosam Chingacheke, has emphasized the importance of equipping learners with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills, describing the sector as a key driver of the country’s economy.
Chingacheke made the remarks on Wednesday at Dzoole Secondary School in Dowa District, during the launch of a digital laboratory under MACRA’s Digital Inclusion for All project.
Speaking to Yetu FM, an aspiring parliamentarian for Dzoole Constituency, Abel Kayembe, applauded MACRA for the initiative, noting that it will enable students to learn faster and access modern information.
“We want to digitalize our education, and this cannot be achieved without ICT infrastructure,” said Kayembe.
Dzoole Community Day Secondary School Head Teacher, Harold Banda, also welcomed the project, saying it has come at the right time when the world is rapidly going digital.
He added that the digital lab will not only give students access to academic resources but will also make it easier for teachers to conduct research.
Yetu FM has established that, through the Digital Inclusion for All project, MACRA will construct 195 digital laboratories across the country, each equipped with 60 computers.
