In a bid to alleviate some financial constraints that Umodzi Katudza primary school girls face during their menstruation period, the Women Palm Tree organization has donated 5 sewing machines worth over 2 million kwacha to the school so that they could manufacture sanitary pads.

Dzaleka Camp Manager, Elthon Phulusa, hailed the Women Palm Tree Organization for the donation citing that it portrays a complementary gesture to what the Government and other implementing partners are doing on the ground.

Phulusa therefore urged the Palm Tree Organization to expand the gesture to other primary schools in order to reach out to many girls in the camp in need of learning how to sew sanitary Pads.

Speaking to Yetu FM, Women Palm Tree Executive Director, Kahozi wa Kahozi Serge acknowledged that many young girls in Dzaleka fail to attend classes when they are in their menstruation period due to a lack of resources in order to purchase sanitary pads hence a need to come up with this initiative.

Serge said the donated sewing machines will help learners acquire expertise in sewing sanitary pads that they can use for several occasions since they will require to be washed after using.

He then expressed gratitude to well-wishers and other women who are working tirelessly in their agricultural activities for the organization to sustain such initiatives.

Umodzi Primary School’s Head Teacher, Blackie Khonje commended Women Palm Tree Organization for this timely donation and assured proper use of the donated items.
