In an effort to reduce suicide cases and gender-based violence in Dowa District, the Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC) has introduced a series of strategies aimed at promoting positive masculinity.
Speaking in an interview with Yetu Radio, MHRRC Capacity Building Associate Noel Msiska stated that the organization will engage directly with men to address various challenges they face within their communities.
Msiska added that MHRRC will conduct awareness campaigns to challenge harmful gender norms, including toxic beliefs such as “men don’t cry,” which discourage men from expressing their emotions or seeking help.
Furthermore, Msiska urged men to take an active role as champions in the fight against gender-based violence in their communities, hinging that it is time men understand that beating a woman is not a sign of manhood, but a violation of human rights.
MHRRC Fighting Inequality Project is being implemented in 3 districts namely Dowa, Nsanje and Ntchisi with funding from Norwegian Church Aid and Dutch Church Aid (NCA, DCA)
