Child rights activist Amos Chibwana has emphasized the urgent need to scale up awareness campaigns against child labor, particularly in the country’s remote areas.
He made the call as Malawi joins the global community in commemorating the World Day Against Child Labor, observed on 12 June annually.
In an interview with Yetu Radio, Chibwana pointed out that many rural communities still lack basic knowledge about child labor. As a result, cases often go unreported, and in some instances, parents unknowingly put children in the labor force.
He also urged the judiciary to take a more active role in enforcing child labor laws by holding accountable those who exploit children for labor.
This year’s commemoration is being observed under the theme “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: Let’s speed up efforts!”
