AGRA Malawi Country Director Dr. Eluphy Nyirenda has emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between AGRA and journalists across the country to enhance understanding of the organization’s mandate, food systems, and agricultural interventions in Malawi.

Nyirenda made the remarks in Lilongwe during the openincg of a two-day media onboarding workshop held on the sidelines of activities at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC). The workshop aims to strengthen partnerships with journalists from various media houses while providing deeper insights into Malawi’s agricultural transformation agenda.

Speaking to journalists, Nyirenda stressed the need for farmers to better understand the role agriculture plays in driving the country’s economy.

Nyirenda noted that journalists play a critical role in disseminating agricultural information and practical farming tips to farmers, hence the importance of bringing media practitioners together with AGRA and its partners to appreciate the organization’s contributions to Malawi’s agricultural sector.

Some of the organizations partnering with AGRA include MACODA, MAFECO, Salama Africa, NYCOM, MWAPATA, TRAIDELINE, Standard Bank, NASFAM, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Youth and the Ministry of Trade, among others.

These partners are implementing agriculture-based projects in districts such as Dowa, Kasungu, Lilongwe, Ntcheu and Mzimba, aimed at empowering youths and people living with disabilities.

Meanwhile, Yetu FM understands that AGRA Malawi is supporting smallholder farmers in efforts to end hunger and poverty by building resilient food systems with financial support from the Mastercard Foundation.
